A source reads EDID at power-on and after every hotplug event. From it the source picks resolution, refresh rate, color format and bit depth, and decides on HDR, VRR, ALLM and audio codecs. With one display on one short cable, nobody notices. Add an AVR, a switch, a long run or a display with unusual firmware, and that list may no longer match what the chain can really handle.
Three ways to feed the source an EDID
ACTIVE EDID MODE in the web server offers three options, each suited to a different question.
1. Copy TX sink
The source reads the EDID of whatever is connected to HDMI OUT. This is your baseline, while the OLED and web server still show the status of both sides.
2. Custom EDID
The source reads a table you pick from a dropdown of 100 entries: 10 Custom Default slots followed by 90 predefined tables. Click an entry and HPD events reset the signal so the source is presented with it.
3. Copy TX sink EDID and modify
Also known as AutoMix: the unit starts from the connected sink’s EDID and overrides only the video and audio flags you set (listed below).
Inside the 100-table list
Slots 1 to 10 are Custom Default entries preloaded with EDIDs from real displays and receivers, such as an LG C9, a Denon S960H and two Sony A1 LLDV variants. Tables 11 to 100 are predefined, grouped by format from 8K60 down to 480p60, each in 7.1, 5.1 and 2.0 audio versions.
VRR is limited to tables 11 to 13 (8K60), 17 to 19 and 23 to 25 (4K120); among the custom-default slots, #4 has VRR in its name, and slots copied from HDMI 2.1 TVs may advertise it too. No 4K60 table advertises VRR. The factory selection is 8K60 4:2:0 FRL-5 VRR HDR with full audio.
Capturing, storing and reusing EDIDs
Three buttons make the unit a small EDID library. DOWNLOAD ACTIVE EDID TABLES saves the input or output EDID as a file. SAVE ACTIVE EDID TO CUSTOM EDID stores the current EDID in Custom slot 8, 9 or 10. UPLOAD EDID TABLES writes an EDID file into a Custom table number you choose. Save your display’s EDID once and you can select it again later.
Flags you can switch in AutoMix
Video flags
Maximum FRL rate (off or FRL1–FRL5), VRR, ALLM, HDR type, and Dolby Vision removed, preloaded or custom.
Audio flags
L-PCM mode, sample rate and bit width; TrueHD, DD+ and DTS-HD MA with mode and sample rate; DD and DTS mode; ONE BIT mode and sample rate.
What EDID control can and cannot do
An EDID describes; it adds no processing power. Advertising 4K120 will not make a 4K60 display accept it. The value lies in limiting a capability that trips up the chain, or presenting a known table to see whether the source reacts differently. Change one thing, then compare EDID RX and EDID TX in the web server.
Common questions
Can the DR HDMI 8K clone the EDID of my TV or projector?
Yes. In COPY TX SINK mode the source reads the EDID of the device at HDMI OUT, and you can save it to Custom slot 8, 9 or 10.
Is it possible to load an EDID file I already have?
Yes. UPLOAD EDID TABLES in the web server sends an EDID file to the Custom EDID table number you pick.
Can VRR or HDR be removed from what the source sees?
Yes. In COPY TX SINK EDID and MODIFY mode you can switch VRR and ALLM off, remove or change HDR, and remove or replace Dolby Vision.
How many EDID tables does the dropdown contain?
100 in total: 10 Custom Default slots and 90 predefined tables, as listed in the DR HDMI 8K manual (Rev 1.2).
