Each answer is limited to what the user manual documents.
The device and its signal path
What exactly is the DR HDMI 8K?
An HDMI 2.1 EDID manager, emulator and repeater with one HDMI input, one HDMI output, an RJ45 LAN port, USB-C power, a small OLED screen and a rotary switch.
How much HDMI bandwidth can pass through it?
Up to 1500MHz / 48Gbps (FRL6). Top uncompressed formats in the manual are 4K120 4:4:4 10-bit, 8K60 4:2:0 10-bit and 8K30 4:2:2 12-bit, plus DSC-compressed signals.
Will it add input lag?
Not noticeably. Input lag is specified as under 1 ms, and the manual puts the added delay at a few pixel clocks.
EDID and handshakes
Can it clone the EDID of my TV or projector?
Yes. COPY TX SINK mode passes the EDID of the device on HDMI OUT to the source.
Is it possible to load a custom or predefined EDID?
Yes. There are 10 custom and 90 predefined EDID tables. You can upload an EDID file to a custom table, save the active EDID to custom slot 8, 9 or 10, and download the input or output EDID.
How do I force a fresh hot-plug without unplugging cables?
Use ISSUE HOTPLUG in the CONFIG section, a soft reset of your setup. After an EDID change, HPD events reset the signal automatically, though some sources still need a restart.
HDR, Dolby Vision and gaming flags
Can VRR and ALLM be switched on or off?
Yes. In the AutoMix mode (COPY TX SINK EDID and MODIFY) both are video flags you can force on or off.
Can I change which HDR formats the source sees?
Yes. The HDR flag can remove HDR or advertise HDR10, HDR10/HLG, HDR10+ or HDR10+/HLG.
What Dolby Vision features are included?
It sniffs, shows and saves the Dolby Vision data block of the connected display, and the web server lets you build a custom one.
Networking and remote control
How do I open the built-in web server?
Connect the LAN port to your network and enter the IP address from the OLED into a browser on the same network. Hostname and mDNS addresses also work in many cases.
Can I give it a fixed IP address?
Yes. Switch DHCP off, then set the IP address, mask and gateway. Changes apply after a reboot.
Is there a way to control it remotely?
Yes, through IP, Telnet or HTTP commands (IP/Telnet default port 2201). The full command list comes as a text file in each firmware package.
Power and cabling
How is it powered?
By an external 5V 2A supply on USB-C. The unit draws about 5V 1.5A at full capability, more than a standard 0.5A USB port delivers.
Which HDMI cables should I use for 48Gbps?
For a 1500MHz / 48Gbps link, use a copper or fiber HDMI 8K cable certified or tested for 1500MHz.
