EDID emulator explained

An EDID emulator stands in for your display during the capability exchange, handing the source the same answer every time — whether the real screen is on, off or showing another input.

The short explanation

Emulating an EDID means pretending to be a display. The source connects, asks what is downstream, and gets a consistent answer from the emulator rather than from whatever is actually powered on at that moment.

Where you run into it

Sources behave badly when the EDID disappears and comes back. A PC rearranges its desktop icons when a screen drops out. A media player restarts its output. A projector on a long run that takes ten seconds to wake up can leave the source deciding, in that gap, that nothing is connected.

An emulator removes the gap. The source sees a display that is always there, always the same, with exactly the capabilities you chose.

How the DR HDMI 8K handles it

Its TX +5V force setting is on by default; switched off, it makes the downstream display invisible to the unit on purpose — useful when you want to control the emulated EDID entirely rather than track the real sink.
