CHAPTER 3

Reading the DR HDMI 8K OLED and using the rotary switch

The small blue OLED shows the FRL rate, RX and TX status and both EDIDs without opening a browser. Turn the rotary switch to move between its four info pages and press it to select.

Power and status

The OLED turns on when power is applied. The DR HDMI 8K logo appears, followed by the default info page. If an active input is connected, the unit reports whether the input and the output sink have handshaken successfully. If a sink is present at the TX output, the TX line shows the current state of the link, including the FRL rate when an FRL signal is active.

DR HDMI 8K OLED default page reading FRL 6/48Gb, 12Gbps over 4 lanes, RX and TX connected, SIGNAL OK
The default info page: FRL rate, TMDS rate and lanes, RX and TX state.

OLED off means either insufficient power or an expired OLED timer, which defaults to 30 seconds. Use the supplied power supply, or press any button if the timer has expired.

OLED on means the unit is powered and ready to accept an HDMI signal.

The rotary switch

The rotary switch has two functions. Up and down navigate the OLED menu or cycle the info pages. Press confirms a choice or selection while in the menu.

Pressing up or down also wakes the unit from sleep or fade mode. Up cycles INFO → RX EDID INFO → TX EDID INFO; down cycles INFO → UNIT INFO → TX EDID INFO.

The four info pages

DR HDMI 8K OLED confirming a working link: FRL 6 at 48Gb, RX and TX connected, SIGNAL OK from RX to TX
Default page: incoming FRL rate, RX and TX status.
DR HDMI 8K OLED RX EDID page: AutoMix mode, 4K120 4:4:4 HDR BT.2020, FRL 5 at 40Gbps, VRR 40-120Hz, ALLM
RX EDID: the EDID the source is being given.
DR HDMI 8K OLED TX EDID page with the sink's 4K120 4:4:4 Dolby Vision EDID, FRL 5 at 40Gbps, VRR 40-120Hz, ALLM
TX EDID: what the connected sink actually advertises.
DR HDMI 8K OLED INFO page with hostname, serial number, firmware 1.1, IP address, subnet mask and gateway
Unit info: hostname, serial, firmware and IP details.

The RX EDID page shows the EDID mode with maximum resolution, frame rate, color depth, color space, chroma, bandwidth in Gbps, and VRR and ALLM status. The TX EDID page shows the same detail for the connected sink, including audio. The unit info page shows serial number, firmware version and IP details — that is where you find the address for the web server.
